Session 1 - Monday

10:45 am to 11:30 am

Title: 3D Stand-alone Educational Module Workshop - Stunt Park and Wave Hero

Presenters: Dr. Teresa Franklin, Bill Young, and Mike Farrell (other STEAM members are welcome to attend but these 3 are scheduled to be there)

Description: During this hands-on session participants will learn about and play the Stunt Park and Wave Hero 3D educational modules.  In Stunt Park, students get to drive a car through a bunch of different stunt maneuvers and answer science questions as they proceed.  Wave Hero helps students to visualize the propagation of energy through a medium in the form of a wave.  In this game students get to play a guitar and see the sound waves move through the air. This session will be limited to the first 10 participants.

Session 2 - Monday

11:45 am to 12:30 pm

Title: Second Life 3D Educational Module Workshop - Weather Challenge, Mystery School, Adventure Park

Presenters: Andrew Goodnite, Juan Flores, and Steve Carroll (other STEAM members are welcome to attend but these 3 are scheduled to be there)

Description: During this hands-on session participants will learn about and play the Weather Challenge, Mystery School and Adventure Park educational modules.  These three educational modules are located on the Ohio Teen Second Life island which is open to the public.  In Weather Challenge, students get to fly up into the clouds to identify cloud types and weather patterns.  In Mystery School, students use an avatar to walk around a virtual schoolhouse and answer 24 questions about things they see in the rooms deciding if it's an observation or an inference. After they finish the game they get to chose between four vehicles they can drive around the island.  The Adventure Park module is a theme park there students can learn about potential and kinetic energy. This workshop will be limited to the first 10 participants.

Title: 2D Flash Educational Module Workshop - Furry Family, Impact and Velocity Park

Presenters: Dr. Teresa Franklin, Yanhui Fang and Mike Farrell (other STEAM members are welcome to attend but these 3 are scheduled to be there)

Description: During this hands-on session participants will learn about and play the Furry Family, Impact, and Velocity Park educational modules.  These 2D flash games can be played in a web browser.  In Furry Family, you create a family of rabbits via completion of Punnett squares. In Impact, players are forced to defend Earth from comets, asteroids, meteors, meteoroids, and meteorites with a cannon and specialized ammunition. And in Velocity Park, you can participate in a home run derby challenge while learning the concept of velocity along the way. This workshop will be limited to the first 10 participants.

Title: Second Life 3D Educational Module Workshop - Fruit Fly Genetics, and the Redi Experiment

Presenters: Andrew Goodnite, Juan Flores, and Steve Carroll (other STEAM members are welcome to attend but these 3 are scheduled to be there)

Description: During this hands-on session participants will learn about and play the Fruit Fly Genetics and the Redi Experiment educational modules.  In Fruit Fly Genetics, students step through the process of seeing fruit flies pass on thier traits to offspring. It shows heredity, punnett squares, and reading data from graphs. The Redi Experiment is the experiment that Francesco Redi used to disprove spontaneous generation by having flies lay eggs to form maggots on meat in open containers and not in the closed containers. This module will step the students through the steps of the redi experiment and explain the thought process that Redi used in conducting this experiment to disprove spontaneous generation. This session will be limited to the first 10 participants.
