Appalachian Ohio counties, including Meigs County and Athens County, are facing challenging environment problems including water, waste, and land issues. On all critical local environmental issues, a well-informed public is important to environment protection in these rural Appalachian counties. We plan to address this need of small Appalachian Ohio communities by promoting awareness of water, waste, and land issues first among high school students in Meigs and Athens School Districts through the development of computer-simulated environmental models, and then among student parents and the general public through a one-day WWL Ohio Contest of these student models and later weeklong exhibits of the winning models. This project is funded by OEEF (Ohio Environmental Education Fund) from the Ohio EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
