Princeton Review

The VITAL Lab recently partnered with the Princeton Review, America’s leading test prep company, to create the company’s presence on Second Life through two SAT strategy session events and an interactive display. SAT strategy sessions were held Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008 at 4 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008 at 8 p.m. on Ohio University’s Second Life virtual campus.

Each event, which featured two Princeton Review teachers in virtual form, consisted of a 20-minute presentation, followed by a Q&A session. Important information about the SAT and the ACT, including testing dates, content guidelines, sample questions and answers, and the college admissions process were covered in each SL event. Admissions counselors and financial aid officers were available on the virtual campus to answer students’ questions during the month of January.

Second Life SAT sessions offered students virtual reality with benefits. Students entered a realm of virtual reality, created their own avatar to fly, and teleported or drove a virtual Princeton Review sports car to an SAT strategy session. Once at the SL session, students learned how to raise their scores on the college entrance exams while also accumulating free virtual collectibles.

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in New York City, the Princeton Review offers private tutoring, as well as classroom and online test preparation to help students improve their scores on college and graduate school admissions tests. The company's Web site, http://www.PrincetonReview.com, helps more than half of university-bound students to research, apply to and prepare for higher education.

Additionally, the Princeton Review works with school districts around the U.S. to measurably strengthen students' academic skills by connecting ongoing assessment with professional development. Furthermore, the Princeton Review provides school districts with college and career resources for both students and guidance counselors. The company also authors more than 200 print and software titles on test preparation and college/graduate school selection and admissions.
